Interface

This wiki is still under construction.

All configuration of this plugin happens through an inventory which can be accessed by writing /cinematic edit. Once you open up the inventory you can click on the cutscene item to bring yourself to the cutscenes tab. This is the tab that will display all cutscenes you ever made and will allow you to either edit those or create new once.

Go ahead and click on the emerald to create a new cutscene. It will ask you to give it a name, please answer in chat. This name is purely for your own reference and won’t be shown to any player. After you have created your first cutscene you will be sent to the most important inventory of them all. The timeline. Think of it as a video editing software timeline where you can add events, cut them and change them.

The timeline

This is where all the important editing happens. Each row represents its own aspect of a cutscene. From top to bottom these are: Timings, Camera, NPCs, Effects and Sounds. To play the cutscene press the play icon on the bottom. To delete the cutscene press the red block. (There’s a ‘Are you sure?’ in case you accidently press it)

Row 1: Timings

It is important to understand how a cutscene gets played. Once you start a cutscene it will perform the actions from left to right. You can have multiple pages to make longer cutscenes. Once it plays a certain inventory slot it may, for example, spawn an NPC. To determine how long it should wait before continuing to the next slot you can click on one of the black stained glass items to give it a value. This value will be the time in ticks the cutscene will wait before continuing. This is what allows you to give time spacing between each event. If you don’t use this then everything will play at the exact same time. If you middle click on any node you can add an additional row of nodes to the cutscene, try it out, it’ll make sense and come in handy whenever you want to add an additional thing into the middle of your cutscene.

Row 2: ‘The Camera’

This row is used to control the camera’s movements. If you don’t need any of it then just leave the row empty. If you want to create a new camera position simply click one of the nodes and answer the questions posed to you in chat. Next, add a delay to row 1 and add another camera position after that. Remember to add the final timings node to prevent the cutscene from ending before the camera movement is over.

Row 3: ‘The Characters’

This is the fun row. Here you can control what characters (NPCs) spawn in. Go ahead and click on one of the nodes to get started. Once you click on any of them it will ask you whether you want to edit an existing NPC or whether you want to spawn a new one. It will then send you to the new NPC customizer menu.

Row 3: ‘The Characters’

Once you click on any of them it will ask you whether you want to edit an existing NPC or whether you want to spawn a new one. It will then send you to the new NPC customizer menu.

Row 4 & 5: ‘Effects and Sounds’

These two rows allow you to add effects such as messages, particles or time of day changes to the cutscene. The sounds tab allows you to look through all sound effects in order to add them to the cutscene

How to Trigger a Cutscene?

There are a number of options available for you to trigger these cutscenes. I will go over each of them. To access the menu where you configure them go to the timeline of the cutscene. This is the main page of a cutscene and click the empty map item in the bottom row that says: ‘Cutscene Triggers’. It will send you to the following inventory:

Here you have three options:

Option 1: Region Triggers:

If you click on this item it will ask you to define the corners of a region. These two corners will form a cube. If the player enters the cube, the cutscene will play for that player. The third question will be for whether or not the cutscene can be played multiple times. If you write ‘no’ then this region can only trigger the cutscene once for each player. If you answer ‘yes’ then each time a player enters, the cutscene starts. Right click this item to delete the region.

Option 2: Play on Join:

If you click this item you can toggle it between three states: ‘No’, ‘Everytime’ and ‘Once’. No means the cutscene won’t play when the player joins. ‘Everytime’ means the cutscene will play every time the player logs in and ‘once’ means the cutscene will only run if this is the player’s first time logging on to the server.
